Spider-Man: Friend or Foe

The big concept twist that Friend or Foe offers up revolves around Spider-Man teaming up with some of his most memorable foes. In a reference to Venom's origin story from Spider-Man 3, some unknown mastermind is using shards from the meteor that spawned the symbiotic suit to brainwash villains such as Doc Ock and the Green Goblin to do his bidding, as well as to power an army of holographic monsters called phantoms. With the help of S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury, you trot the globe, recover the shards, and free the brainwashed villains, which turns enemies into allies. As thin as the premise is, the game's jokey, playful tone makes it seem less far-fetched, and it ultimately serves its purpose of letting you fight alongside some of Spidey's greatest villains, a concept that manages to stay novel throughout. You'll also team up with other heroes along the way, including Spidey regulars such as Prowler, Black Cat, and Silver Sable, as well as b-team favorites such as Iron Fist and Blade. A big part of what carries the humor in Friend or Foe is the quality of the voice work, which is consistently great.

Point of View is a feature-length, interactive movie. Comprised of many separate video sequences, the course of the movie is created as it plays. It is not the future of adventure gaming (though it may be the future of movies) but it is an alternative. There is no inventory, nor are there any puzzles to solve. Rather, the movie has been broken into twelve chapters and at the end of each chapter you are asked a series of questions based on your personal impressions of what you have just witnessed. Your choices are eventually responsible for determining the course that the movie will take. In this way no two viewing experiences are ever alike. Plus, at the end of every chapter, the viewer has the opportunity to dig deeper as personal items belonging to the characters can be studied and the characters themselves will share with you their opinions about what has so far occurred. Be forewarned that the game does venture into the areas of voyeurism, date rape, stalking, eroticism and obsession. Yet, all of these themes are handled maturely [/quote]and professionally.

Onimusha 3: Demon Siege

The game opens with Samanosuke Akechi (Takeshi Kaneshiro) destroying the monstrous Genma army in Japan 1582. It then jumps to modern-day Paris 2004, featuring Jacques Blanc (Jean Reno) riding on his motorcycle to help his friend Philippe. The Genma army then begins its invasion of Paris near the Arc de Triomphe.

The game returns to Samanosuke in feudal Japan fighting his way to Honnoji Temple, which is on fire from a raging battle. Samanosuke battles and kills Ranmaru Mori (Joshua Keaton) and approaches Nobunaga Oda. However, before they can fight, a portal opens in the floor and Samanosuke is pulled through it.

Meanwhile, the French military is fighting several monsters from 1582, but the soldiers cannot hold them for long. Jacques arrives on the scene finding Philippe injured from the battle. Suddenly, Samanosuke appears from a portal in a Paris alley right where Jacques is fighting the Genma monsters. Jacques Blanc runs out of ammo just as he and Philippe are ambushed, but Samanosuke manages to rescue them. Samanosuke and Jacques meet but are unable to properly communicate.

The time portal reappears and pulls Jacques and Philippe through to Japan. Samanosuke makes his way towards the center of the hysteria, the Arc de Triomphe. Samanosuke first meets Michelle, Jacques' girlfriend, near the Arc and makes his way towards the roof. There he encounters Guildenstern and finds out he is actually over 400 years in the future in Paris. Samanosuke then fights and destroys Brainstern, a robotic creation.

Jacques Blanc and Philippe arrive in 16th century Japan. Unfortunately, Philippe dies of mortal wounds from the previous battle after the time warp. Jacques encounter a different Samanosuke in an alternate timeline on his way to Honnoji Temple. Both men realize that to return to their own time period, they must save the current time from destruction. The Samanosuke in 2004 Paris teams up with Michelle and Jacques son to save the city from destruction while Jacques and Samanosuke (not player controlled) struggle to fight Nobunaga in feudal Japan. The two men work together across time to solve puzzles and access new areas.

EA aims to light the lamp again with the '08 edition of its annual hockey game. In this edition for PC, EA has expanded its Skill Stick moves to completely cover every move and trick you pull on the ice -- flick the stick for precision shots, for quick dekes, for spot-on or leading passes, and even for brutal body checks! The Dynasty Mode features several improvements and new additions, including a weekly goals feature that allows you to improve your team quicker, a contract negotiation feedback screen for salary discussions, and a Fantasy Draft feature that lets you pick your roster.
